Cleaning Wax From Floors

Using an ice cube to harden the wax drippings is one way to remove wax from hardwood floors with minimal scraping required.

Allow it to sit for 10 15 minutes. These products protect the floor from stains by putting a nearly impenetrable layer of wax on top of the floor so that substances that would stain the floor cannot come into contact with the actual floor. Simply hold the ice cube in place on the wax for 30 seconds even if the wax has already cooled.

Once the wax is nice and firm take the scraper or spatula and gently pry the wax off the floor. Applying more wax only makes the problem worse. Then let the solution sit on the floors for 10 minutes before scrubbing it in with a sponge. Leaving hot water on your flooring long enough to dissolve wax is just asking for the water to seep through the cracks swell the wood and ruin your floor.

If the wax is fresh and still malleable you may need to hold the ice cube for a minute or two. Lay the ice on the wax. Plastic spatula or scraper make sure this is plastic because metal will scratch the floor furniture wax. When the whole floor is stripped of wax to remove wax buildup give it a final cleaning by mopping the surface of the wood with hot water.

If your no wax floor loses its shine restore it with a polish or sealant made for no wax flooring. The original wax must be removed first. Many floor cleaning products have a wax that adds shine and gloss to a vinyl or linoleum floor. Make sure the floor is thoroughly clean and apply one or two thin layers as directed.

If a surface finished hardwood floor still looks dingy or dull after dusting deep clean it with any ph neutral wax free and petroleum free cleaner such. You really want the wax to get nice and solid. Try working in sections with a mop and going over it with a dry microfiber cloth on a dry mop. Take care to dry any remaining water as standing water can easily damage the surface of hardwood floors.

When wax builds up on vinyl and linoleum flooring it can result in a discolored yellow tone. Many newer floor manufacturers recommend. Even freshly washed and waxed floors. Then a fresh layer of wax can be applied to the clean floor to give a fresh clean start.
